Since you're on the Steam client, you can just go to the Steam website and click on the Download button to link you to the Steam client. Every time you fight a monster, you'll gain one heart, and there are eight levels of health in total. You'll also have the option to choose a stronger pacifist character that can use certain attacks and items. To proceed through the game, you'll need to battle monsters to gain experience to level up and use your new skills. The player starts out with a default pacifist character. Once you've finished the tutorial, you can take on the Underground. Don't worry if you don't know how to play it, because it takes about 30 minutes to complete the tutorial.
The first time you play Undertale, you'll be given a short tutorial that will teach you how to play and move the game.
